Can electric aroma diffusers be made in Vietnam instead of China?

Yes, if the build is split honestly. For a home fragrance program, Jason Craft moved plastic injection, plug assembly, water-transfer printing, packaging and final assembly of electric aroma diffusers to Vietnam, while the ceramic and glass parts Vietnam could not yet make to standard came from China. Diffusers have shipped from Vietnam since May 2025, with origin confirmed item by item and a Certificate of Origin on every shipment.

The challenge

No ready supply base for a small appliance

A home fragrance program needed electric aroma diffusers outside China. Vietnam already made glass and ceramics, but a diffuser is a small appliance: plastic housings, plugs and adapters, circuit boards, decoration and packaging. Vietnam had no ready supply base for the plastics, plugs and finishing it needs, and a diffuser that is noisy or inconsistent comes straight back from the shelf.

What we did

Move what Vietnam can do well; keep the rest in China

We localized most of the build at a Vietnam partner with its own injection, circuit-board, assembly and aging-test workshops:

  • In Vietnam: plastic injection, plug assembly, water-transfer printing, packaging and final assembly.
  • From our China base: the decorative ceramic and glass parts that Vietnam could not yet make to standard.

The first batches ran slower and noisier than China. Each run, motor noise came down and consistency went up. Diffusers run an aging test, lit and misting on racks, before they are packed.

The result

Diffusers have shipped from Vietnam since May 2025, with a second batch delivered for the Christmas season. Because the product combines Vietnamese assembly with some Chinese parts, origin is not assumed: it is confirmed item by item before shipment under the substantial-transformation rules of the destination market, and every shipment travels with a Certificate of Origin. We do not transship.

What to check before you move a diffuser to Vietnam

  • Which parts Vietnam can make to your standard today, and which must still come from China.
  • Whether the finished item qualifies as Vietnamese origin for your market once those parts are counted.
  • Safety listing for the exact model and plug type, confirmed before production.
  • A pilot run with noise and mist output measured against the China-made reference.

Frequently asked questions

Which parts of an aroma diffuser can be made in Vietnam?

In this program, plastic injection, plug assembly, water-transfer printing, packaging and final assembly were localized in Vietnam. Decorative ceramic and glass parts that Vietnam could not yet make to standard came from our China base.

Is a diffuser assembled in Vietnam with some Chinese parts 'Made in Vietnam'?

It depends on the item. Country of origin is decided by where the product is substantially made, not by where it ships from, so we confirm origin item by item before shipment, and every shipment travels with a Certificate of Origin. We do not route Chinese goods through Vietnam.

How long did it take to reach stable quality?

The first batches ran slower and noisier than China. Motor noise came down and consistency went up with each run. Diffusers have shipped from Vietnam since May 2025, with a second batch delivered for the Christmas season.
